    Hungry Tea Masters' Mid-Autum Festival

A cosy evening for a private tea-pairing session to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.

We made some snowskin mooncakes with 3 tea flavours - Hojicha, English Breakfast + Lavender, and Bi Luo Chun + Yuzu. There were also these traditional cookies that we made to top up the traditional Cantonese mooncakes. As for the teas, we chose 2 Oolongs that could pair well with all the flavours of the different mooncakes.

    Crumble Rumble

Our last summer workshop for 2023.

Two black teas - Taiwanese Honey Red and a Laotian Gu Shu (Old Tree) Hong Cha to pair with the berry crumble cake - a German favourite for warm days.

The Taiwanese Hong Cha is not commonly drunk and the Laotian Hong Cha was a surprise find from our trip to Laos in May this year. Both had similar yet different flavours, one was more honey sweet and the other had a stronger roast to it.
On one hand the sweetness of the cake was fighting with that of the Honey Red, on the other, the Gu Shu Hong Cha was unleashing its profound taste profiles while interacting with the sweet and sour from the berries.

In the end, there was no unanimous decision on which was the better tea for the cake. To each his own, and that's the fun part of tea-food pairing!

Hungry Tea Masters' Tea Meetup #1

The first of our new Tea Meetup series in a cosy setting.

We sampled two famous Chinese green teas, Bi Luo Chun (Jade Snail) and Huang Shan Mao Feng (Yellow Mountain Mao Feng), giving also some history and background of the said teas and tea production in China. As a bonus, we also tried a Sheng Pu Erh to show how further processes can evolve the taste, texture and smell of green tea.

    Japanese Tea Party

In collaboration with Luffy Pancakes Cafe in Munich, we had a Japanese tea pairing session with their classic pancake.

We introduced our Sencha and Kabusecha Hojicha to our guests, allowing them to smell, taste and see for themselves the two green teas, along with some fun facts to help them appreciate the teas better.

The airy egg pancake was a delight, and the medium-body Hojicha was the favourite pairing because of its roasty flavour complemented well with the sweet pancakes.

    Trailblazers: Personal Growth & Community

We are happy to have supported an IWD event jointly organised by Southeast Asian Entrepreneurs in Europe Association (SEEA) and Singapore Global Network (SGN) in Munich on 31 March.

To pair with the vegetarian Indian Curry and Salad that evening, we offered 4 different teas, of which 2 were black from 2 different regions, 1 blended black tea and a Rooibos. Definitely a comforting pairing to the flavourful and spicy Asian cuisine.

    Banana in Black

Another workshop in Munich pairing vegan banana bread. For the pairing, we chose two black teas that were "same same but different".

A Taiwanese Red Ruby black tea versus an Assam tea from Koomsong plantation. While there were a lot of similarities between both black teas, it was also rather easy for our guests to identify the subtle differences.

As to which tea paired better with the banana bread, there was quite a mix of opinions. Which do you think paired better?

Private Tea Appreciation and Pairing session

A private tea tasting session with our guests from Karlsruhe, trying out a range of teas from green to light Oolong, and dark Oolong to black.

Coincidentally, it was the Fasching weekend and we decided to have some tea pairing with Krapfen (or Pfannkuchen or Berliner). What a pleasure to have some good teas to pair with the sweet pastry.

    Green Tea Meets Brownie

Our first workshop of 2023 was sold-out! We paired vegan brownie with two Long Jings (Dragonwell) that were quite similar yet different.

While appreciating the difference between the two green teas, participants could also experience the effect of the brownie on both teas (and vice versa), and decide on their preferred pairing.

Chocolate definitely goes well with green tea, and not only japanese green tea. Join us at our future workshops to learn more!

    Berlin Community Mixer

As part of the networking event co-organised by Singapore Global Network and Southeast Asian Entrepreneurs in Europe Association for the entpreneurs in Berlin, we presented Tea and Chocolate Pairing to the guests.

For the chocolate, we had Milk and Dark (70%) from Lindt, and an Oolong and a blended tea for the tea pairings. Our objective was to invite the guests to think beyond the regular teas served at Afternoon Teas when it comes to tea pairings with sweet desserts, and appreciate the reasoning behind every Tea-Food pair.

    Career Tea Talk: Berlin

What better way to connect people together over food? And with food, we all need a drink, better yet, a cup of tea.

In this Career Tea Talk series in Berlin co-organised by ConnecAsia (Hungry Tea Masters) and &ahead, and hosted at WeWork Berlin, participants were invited to an informal chat about career challenges over a cup of tea. In this case, a cup of Shou Pu Erh to go with Gado-gado, an Indonesian salad with peanut sauce).
